FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How I work, who it’s for, and how to start a conversation.

What does Jakob Ehe do?

Jakob Ehe is an independent product and interaction designer based in Munich. He helps founders and product teams make better product decisions by turning assumptions into realistic, interactive prototypes people can react to — before engineering commits. His work combines product thinking, realistic prototyping, usability, and implementation awareness.

What is pre-build product definition, or prototyping-led product design?

It’s defining a product before it gets built. Instead of debating ideas on paper, Jakob turns the chosen direction into experiences people can use: prototyping to test whether a problem is worth solving, aligning on priorities and clear decision criteria, and turning the result into product logic, requirements, and design decisions ready to build from. Discussions create opinions; experiences create evidence.

Who is this for — who does Jakob work with?

Jakob is the right fit for complex B2B or enterprise products, AI workflows, copilots and decision-heavy interfaces, founders defining a product before build, unclear product logic or workflow complexity, and design systems that need behaviour, not just components. It’s a less ideal fit for pure visual refreshes, generic marketing websites, execution-only UI production, or projects without access to users, stakeholders, or product decisions.

Which companies and industries has Jakob worked with?

Selected work spans scientific research, automotive, and professional services. For CERN’s Business Computing group he built a design system and community of practice that is now part of CERN’s tech stack. For Mercedes-Benz he studied the MBUX companion app — whether familiarity should come from the platform or the product — as a master’s thesis in collaboration with Mercedes-Benz. For PwC he designed a trustworthy review workflow for AI document extraction.

Where is Jakob based, and how does he work?

Jakob is based in Munich, Germany, and works with founders and product teams internationally — remote or on-site — across product, UX/UI, and interaction design. Recent work includes CERN in Geneva, and he collaborates with English-speaking clients worldwide. He works in both English and German.

How does prototyping help teams decide?

A prototype turns an abstract debate into something people can use, challenge, and compare, so reactions replace opinions. It’s the cheapest disagreement you’ll ever have: you find out what works while it’s still easy to change. The prototype isn’t the deliverable — the decision is.

How do we start working together?

Start by sharing the biggest product challenge you’re facing. Email mail@jakobehe.com or book a 30-minute call. The aim of a first conversation is to make the challenge tangible while it’s still cheap to change.
